My new addiction

Today I spent the day at Prints Charming's studio learning how to screen print. It was such an enjoyable and relaxing day. I wish I had taken a photo of my fabric, but I only had my phone, so you all will have to wait until I get my fabric in the mail. The lovely Cath and Kirsten are taking the fabric to have it heat set.

So instead I will share with you some of my latest fabric purchases. From Prints Charming I had to buy their gorgeous rocket print for my rocket loving boy! I also purchased some of the coordinating stripe.
This fabric has such a beautiful feel. It's a soft brushed poplin. It reminds me of Heather Ross' Lightning Bugs range which brings me to my next fabric...

And my boy's other fave of the moment...ROBOTS! Some very cute Japanese cotton/linen with a robot print! These are definitely going to be made into shorts or pants.
Better start flicking through my Ottobre magazines to find some patterns!

Happy Cupcakes!

Since Nancy posted on her blog about this pattern, I have been hanging out for Feliz. My trusty enabler ordered it the next week, and then I had to wait a month for it to arrive in Australia. By the time I received the pattern I was full on into preparing for a market then the fair. But now I had the time, and I was inspired by Justina!

I had this cupcake fabric sitting around in my stash and thought it looked nice with the chambray. I also knew Moo would love the cupcakes. On the front of the overdress I appliqued a cupcake to which I sewed on tiny glass beads like 100's and 1000's (sprinkles).

I felt like it took me forever to make this dress, but really it was one evening and part of a day. Sitting there hand sewing the beads onto the cupcake took me a while.

Rocket Boy

Will loves his new shirt with a rocket on it. We received this shirt, a pair of shorts and another fab shirt in a swap with Naomi. Thank you so much Naomi! Will loves it all. Sorry I didn't take photos of the shirts before being worn. The shirt with the airplane is wrinkled because it got dried in the dryer. You can see much better photos over at Naomi's blog.

Pin Cushion Swap

I made this pincushion for a swap over on Crafty Mamas.
My swap partner lives up in Queensland and is a tropical kind of babe, so I just had to use some Ginger Blossom to make the cushion. I found the pattern off this page. And funnily enough another Crafty Mama made the same cushion as I did for her swap!

Forest Sprites abound

I made 14 of these garlands for the flower garland stall at the Fair today. Lots more were made by other mums too! At our stall we had lots of beautiful flowers to be woven into the garland. Unfortunately I didn't take my camera to school. And the flower garlands we brought home look a bit droopy after a big day out. Moo made one for herself and one for me!
This is what my floor looked like after making the garlands...

Rainbow Swirl

I have had this muslin sitting around my house for over a year. I always mean to dye it for play cloths, but it just sat forgotten at the bottom of a box. In the interest of decreasing my stash, I decided it must go. I cut it into 3 pieces and dyed them rainbow. They are all about 2.7 metres long. It was amusing dyeing them in the backyard as they were stretched across the yard. I am really going to try to get better about taking photos as I go. I just get so involved in what I am doing that I don't think to grab the camera.

This is part of what I dyed on Tuesday to sell at the Spring Fair this Saturday. I'll show you more later.

For a Rainbow Princess

Last Friday Will and I went to a birthday party. It was Will's first birthday party where he was invited and not his sister! The birthday girl was my friend's adorable daughter. My friend challenged me as I only had one and a half weeks between getting the invite and the party. Originally I was thinking of making the Ottobre Bird purse, but I saw this rainbow stripe fabric in my stash and decided an Olivia dress would be made. The dress pictured is a second one that I made. The birthday dress has been given and is already loved. The birthday girl opened the present and put the dress on straight away and wore it for her party!

Tree of Happiness

I was tagged. I am flattered that the lovely Xiola thought of me, and so I will take the time to answer this...

6 Things that make me Happy
  1. My children are healthy.
  2. My friends - I have awesome friends. They just get me.
  3. Huge cuddles from my boy when he says, "I love big cuggles."
  4. Baking with my girl.
  5. Making clothes that children love. Moo always insists upon wearing what I make her.
  6. Creating
I am supposed to tag 6 other people, but most of the people that I would have tagged have been already. So if you are actually reading this, you must be my friend, so go for it. I award you with the Tree of Happiness

Bring on Spring

I made this top for Moo the other day. It is from Ottobre 03/08, #12 "Strawberry Tunic". It's such a cute top and was a lot of fun to make. I bought the fabric at Spotlight off the clearance table. I'm pretty sure I only paid $3/m. Total bargain!

This top also had a first for me. It was the first time I used a twin needle. I used the twin needle on the bindings. The hem was done with the cover stitch machine though. I only have a Bernina/Bernette 009 Cover Stitch machine which does not have a binder attachment. I so lust after a Babylock coverstitch machine, but at AU$2000 that is NOT gonna happen any time soon! I used some Steam-A-Seam on my hem which works a treat when using the cover stitch.

Moo has been bugging me to wear the top since I've made it, but it's just been too cold! I am going to have a look through her drawer tomorrow to see if there is a long sleeve top that she can wear under it. She has a party tomorrow and has asked to wear it there.

A Rainbow Assortment

It's a nice little bundle of wool felt that I bought at the last market. Previously I had walked past it thinking that I could just dye my own. But I finally decided it was nice to have an assortment of colours on hand for immediate crafting pleasure. What will it become? I have no idea.

Don't over think it

This shirt was on my to-do list for ages. It missed my last round of Antonia making because I couldn't commit to the fabric combination. The problem was I was over-thinking it. Trying to make it more complicated than it should be. Why try do something else when you have a perfect combination to start with??? I love the way the Prillie knit and Girlie knits combine. I am going to be so sad when these are gone from my stash.
